Today I gifted the Cost Center her first fountain pen, which was a lovely Muji, not the M. Proust. She couldn’t be bothered to ink it. It crushed me, but I’m not defeated. In fact, I’m telling myself that the evening’s reluctance is due to the  load of homework she’s facing rather than some as yet unidentified familial anomie related to the capacious joy  of putting ink to paper. Since she was a toddler, she’s watched and copied me scribbling old-school with the right instruments. I also spoke highly of the Namiki Falcon and the Custom 74.
